Description:

  • Size: Medium to large deciduous tree, typically reaching 40-70 feet tall with a spread of 30-40 feet.  
  • Leaves: Alternate, simple, 1-3 inches long with a serrated margin. They are bright green in spring and summer, turning yellow in fall.  
  • Bark: The most distinctive feature, exfoliating in thin, papery layers that reveal a smooth, cinnamon-brown inner bark.
