Bur oak, (Quercus macrocarpa), North American timber tree belonging to the white oak group, distributed primarily throughout the central United States. It has become a popular ornamental and shade tree in urban areas because of its resistance to insect and fungal attack, drought, and air pollution. 

The bur oak is a deciduous tree in the genus Quercus, which includes about 450 species of ornamental and timber trees and shrubs. Here are some facts about bur oaks: 
 
  • Appearance: Bur oaks have a broad, rounded crown, thick, furrowed gray to brown bark, and dark green leaves that turn yellow-brown in the fall.
